JAM-DEX gives Jamaica a central-bank digital currency alongside bank accounts, cards and cash. Local payments use the Jamaican dollar, while international transfers connect households and merchants with overseas funds in a Caribbean market of roughly 2.84 million residents in 2025.

Cash continues to play an important role in Jamaica despite JAM-DEX and card options. The shift within physical money is notable: cotton banknotes stopped being legal tender in July 2025, completing the move to polymer banknotes.
